Structures and Roles

Overview

  • The health services have entered a period of enormous organisational change - the largest such reform in the history of the State. The central aim of the reorganisation is to help improve the availability and quality of services for the benefit of patients, clients and their families.

  • The reforms will also help the planning, management, delivery and evaluation of services and the accountability arrangements underpinning them.

  • In the reformed health system, the key new/restructured bodies are the Health Service Executive (HSE), the Health Information & Quality Authority (HIQA) and the Department of Health and Children (DOHC).
