Freedom of Information (FOI)

The Freedom of Information Act 1997 came into force on 21 April 1998. The Freedom of Information Amendment Act 2003 came into force on 11 April 2003.

This area of our site is intended to provide you with the information you need to make requests under the Act. If you don't find the information you need here, please contact us.

If you wish to make a request under the Freedom of Information Acts, here is what you do:

• Send us a written statement of your request (be careful with use of words such as "relating to" which can make the scope of your request very broad),
• Specify that it is a request under Section 7 of the FOI Acts,
• Enclose with your request a cheque or bank draft for €15 (€10 if you are a medical card holder or his/her dependant). Do not send cash
• Send your request to FOI Unit, Department of Health and Children, Hawkins House, Dublin 2.
